Age of War is a side-view strategy game about defending a base while sending an army toward an opposing base. Its progression through historical eras changes the military theme as the battle develops.
Build an army that can survive the enemy advance and destroy the rival base. Use the selection controls to manage your forces while watching the pressure on your own side.
Watch how the two armies meet before committing to another unit. The immediate problem is keeping your base safe; an offensive push is useful only if it leaves enough strength to handle the next enemy wave.
Watch where your army meets the enemy and whether that meeting point is moving toward your base. Sending another unit because the purchase is available is less useful than identifying the immediate problem: a collapsing defense, an unsupported push or an enemy formation your current force is not handling.
When your force begins advancing, check what remains behind it. A wave that reaches the enemy side can still leave your base exposed to the next response. Make one purchase decision at a time and observe the result, especially while learning a new era’s units.
Armor Games describes both deployable units and defensive turrets. Units move the battle toward the rival base; turrets help protect your own position. If attacks repeatedly reach home, adding only more offensive pressure may leave the same defensive weakness unresolved on the next exchange.
Use the location of the fighting to assess a defensive investment. A turret matters when enemies enter its area of influence; a unit can contribute farther forward. Judge the purchase by the task you need it to perform, rather than treating every military option as interchangeable damage.
The original Age of War has five ages with their own unit and turret choices. An era transition is a reason to review your plan: inspect the available options and watch how the next confrontation develops. A formation that was adequate earlier may need a different balance as the opposing army changes.
Keep the victory condition in view during progression. Reaching another historical age does not itself win; the opposing base must fall while yours survives. When a push stalls, decide whether the next investment will repair the immediate weakness or simply postpone the same unfavorable exchange.

Armor Games describes five ages, each with its own units and turrets. This guide covers that original entry; do not assume a feature or upgrade rule from Age of War 2 applies.
Consider where the battle is being lost. If enemies repeatedly reach your base, review your defensive turret options as well as the composition of your next unit wave.
